Ace the Appetizers
Speaking of dip, if your family tradition is watching football on Thanksgiving Day, go the chip and dip route. Just a simple combination of Fritos, tortilla chips, salsa, bean dip or guacamole is more than enough for the football crowd. For a slightly different taste, you could mix a cream cheese based dip. Here's one of our favorite recipes for garlic herb dip.

Perfect the Place Settings
Place settings follow the centerpiece in elegance or simplicity. Decorations for a place setting are usually found in one or more of three places. The first is underneath the plate as the place mat. If you favor a more antique style, use doilies to begin your place settings. For those that prefer a more natural theme, use everyday woven place mats or even wood slices. For colorful place mats, your local hobby or decor store likely has a variety of fabric and patterned options for you to choose from.
The next decoration could be found on or above the plate in the form of a name card. To save time, easily print name cards from online templates. If you have the time to tap into your creative side consider a few minor additions. Add a touch of wheat or rosemary to the printed cards with a little twine. Spray paint leaves to match your theme and write the name of each person on a leaf. You could even do the same with pumpkins.
The third and final place to use holiday themed decoration in the place setting is with the silverware. If you prefer to forgo the traditional route of laying out silverware, consider bundling utensils with a napkin and accent items.
It's too soon for Christmas music and there isn't exactly a Thanksgiving genre available, so what do you play for background music? Absolutely anything.
Classical is an ideal choice for background music, but that's not always everyone's forte. A playlist based on the musical stylings of Frank Sinatra is another route. Our advice is to play the music that makes you happy. Is there a song grandma loves or that your kids always sing along to? Include it in your playlist!
The TV channel may not be up for debate in your household, but here are a few ideas just in case it is.
Football is a huge part of our Southern culture, but football isn't the only entertaining channel to watch on Thanksgiving Day. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a tradition that changes a little bit each year. Turn the parade into a game by playing eye-spy as the floats go by or hosting a lip-syncing competition based on the performances.
Are the kids getting antsy? Slip in a movie or turn the TV off and challenge the family to a game of football outside. Thanksgiving is for spending time with loved ones and enjoying each other's company.
