As Motivational Speaker Zig Ziglar advised, "You need a plan to build a house. To build a life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal." At Ultimate Closet Systems©, we encourage every employee to set work and personal goals, then commit to a process of achieving them. Goals help a person move forward in creating a better life but without a system to achieve that goal, a New Years Resolution can be too overwhleming to accomplish.
James Clear writes about forgetting the long-term goals altogether and focusing on a habit or system instead. He begins by explaining how goals are more harmful than good. A long-term goal seems too large and far away to accomplish, resulting in a perpetual feeling of failure. Even Nelson Mandela said, "It always seems impossible until it's done." That is, if it ever gets done.
A "system" is a plan of action designed to make progress. It consists of scheduled daily tasks, which create a steady and habitual move forward. By committing to a system, you are more likely to meet and even exceed your original goal.
"Goals can provide direction and even push you forward in the short-term, but eventually a well-designed system will always win. Having a system is what matters. Committing to the process is what makes the difference."
